- Pokhara
(Day 155)
I take my breakfast by the lake and start studying again. The day offers a good opportunity to observe the restaurant staff as well as the shopkeepers across the road. For the most part everyone is just waiting. In the restaurant for example, I sat from 9am to 7pm, I was the only customer the entire day, and I could see that most of the other restaurants were in similar straits. The shop keeps sat on their steps, waited, and almost begged the few passing tourists to step inside. It must be very difficult not to seem overly eager in such a situation.
In the evening, I switch restaurants and have my dinner. As I sit in the candlelight, a large snow-white month settles near me and extending my hand it walks right on. I am looking at the moth when the waiter runs excitedly over to me very agitated. "Sir, please that moth very dangerous, very poisonous..." I smile at him amused that I have unwarily stumbled into yet another dangerous situation. While I flick my finger sending the moth flying off into the night.
I go into the bathroom and scrub down well as suggested and return to dinner, apparently having narrowly missed more calamity.
